Nails That Say Something.

Gel is a UV-cured polish applied to your natural nail - it adds shine and durability but no length. Acrylic extends the nail using a liquid monomer and powder polymer mixture, which hardens in air. Acrylics are stronger for significant length; gel is better for natural nail looks with a longer-lasting finish. Dip powder falls between the two - it's applied like a powder, bonds without UV, and is lighter than acrylic while being more durable than gel.

Dip powder typically lasts 3–4 weeks; gel manicures last 2–3 weeks. Both depend on how fast your nails grow, what your hands are exposed to, and how your nail tech preps the nail. Good prep - gentle removal of the cuticle, thorough dehydration, proper bonding - is the biggest factor in longevity regardless of the product used.

Applied and maintained correctly, acrylics don't damage healthy nails. Damage happens from improper removal (peeling or prying), over-filing during application, or leaving too long between fills. We always soak off acrylics rather than forcibly remove them, and we assess nail health at every appointment. If we see thinning or damage, we'll tell you.
